PUBLIC NOTICE Notice of destruction of special education records Special education records collected by Jacksonville ISD related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement or provision of special education in the district are required by state and federal law to be retained for seven years after special education services have ended for a student. When a student who receives special education services is no longer eligible for those services, graduates, completes his or her educational program at age 22, or moves from the district, special education services cease. Special Education records may be useful to a parent or guardian or the former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance or other matters. This notification is to inform parents, guardians and former students of Jacksonville ISD?s intent to destroy the special education records of students who were no longer receiving special education services as of the end of the 2023- 2024 school year. These records will be destroyed after January 31,2025 in accordance with state law unless the parent, guardian or eligible adult student notifies the school district and requests a copy. Copies of the records may be requested prior to their destruction by phone at 903-586-6511 ext. 9426.
